What’s In The Way of Your Joy?

What’s in the Way of Your Joy?

This may seem like an odd question in this season that emphasizes joy. But perhaps you’ve noticed that in the midst of a party, a family gathering or even a firework’s display that something inside you puts a limit on the amount of joy you experience.

As younger beings we were often told to put a lid on our joyful expression.

This early limiter on our unfettered joy, our true exuberant expression allowed us to get along with others in a multitude of environments. And at the same time limited our natural born joy.

We’ve been taught to behave or adhere to a set of cultural rules to fit into our surroundings, whether it was our families, school, community or the culture at work.

There is a pervasive belief that to function successfully, the full joyful soulful expression that is ours is not acceptable.

As we age/mature- we learn to put our natural sense of joy through a lot of filters based on years of these habits and beliefs. When we stop our joy, we put ourselves back in the box of our limitations; the habits of depressing and suppression where we can make ourselves sick.

We can have thoughts like,

“Oh, maybe I shouldn’t have done that, what would other’s think,”

or…

“Everyone around me seems kind of subdued, I need to keep quiet.”

When we become aware of the joy limiters, we can liberate them. If we notice and feel the tiniest tremors of joy- will make them stronger and make us healthier.

JOY is energizing when we really let go into it. Holding it back drains us of vital life force.  What we all need right now is more JOY, and for all of us to stop putting a limiter on it.

How are you limiting Joy?

What are you willing to do to be more joyful and spread joy?

We’d love to hear from you.  Please share your comments below.

Are You a Heretic?

Are You a Heretic?

The word heretic is a great demonstration of how the original meaning of a word becomes burdened or co-opted by organizations that will bend a word to suit their objectives.

Heretics were burned at the stake. Sometimes that was the kindest thing that happened to them. We’ve discovered being a heretic has been really misunderstood.

The root meaning of the word heretic as a noun is defined in the online etymological dictionary as “able to choose”.

Sometimes we have to become heretics in our own lives to ‘choose’ away from a history, a place or people. People will want us to walk in lockstep with them even though we know it will cost us the integrity of our hearts.

Is it time for you to be a heretic and choose a way of living with a new mindset that may separate you from those you’ve been marching with?

Are you walking to the beat of your own drum?

God or No God

What's the most loving thing to do?

Taking my book Not So Little Cora public has been an eye opener. The reception has been wonderful and yet unless I make a change, its message will be inaccessible to many.

Why?

I use the word “God” to describe the love that is bigger than we are or Life itself.

The use of that word has triggered a powerful wound around the word God and prevented the greater messaging from being heard. And because of the word ‘God’, Not So Little Cora can’t be used in public schools here in Nova Scotia.

Even though over 6.5 billion people on the planet believe in a higher power, God is a word laden with baggage and often not allowed in the public domain.

One of Cora’s ‘not-so-imaginary’ friends helps her understand what the word God means. Cora knows there is something outside of herself that is a mystery. She asks-

“What is breathing us? I don’t have to think about it at all; my body just knows what to do.”

It was Marco who replied this time. “What a wonderful question. Yes, there is a spark inside each of us that comes from Life itself. Some humans call this God. That spark is connected to us like a battery. It ignites our breathing when we’re born. Then, when we are complete with life in a body, the spark lifts us out, back into the big love that holds us all.” p.27

Not So Little Cora is a book about love, and even though many define God as love, others do not.

Some who are responding to the word God and wondering if I will change it, are in fact honoring the potency of the story and describing for them what is in the way at a deeper level for them to be able to understand.

Cora always wants to know, what is the most loving thing to do? I’ve wrestled with this over the past couple of weeks as I’ve assimilated the feedback and asked my sacred allies in love what would be best.

If I take out the word God, I am not eliminating God/the All of Life nor the presence of Love from the book. That’s the wrapper, the container for the whole story.

One of the purposes of Not So Little Cora is to assist in helping grow an understanding of what Love is and can be, in order to inspire a more loving world.

So……

I am taking out the word God from the book and replacing with other words or terms like love or the All of life.  I don’t want there to be stumbling blocks to the important messaging in Not So Little Cora.

An edited version will be coming soon. It’s an easy change. If you’d don’t mind having the term ‘God’ in the book, the original is still available online on Amazon.

Not So Little Cora -book and E-book

I’ll let you know when the new version is ready

Thank you for being on this journey with me. And for standing in your own soulful knowing, your uniqueness and love that I hope to champion through Not So Little Cora.

I’d love to hear from you.

Blessing- A Pause That Refreshes 1.2.19

A Pause that Refreshes

What if you stopped all the things that you think you should do?

Some things require completion.

Some things can have a rest.

Now is the time to reassess how you are spending your life.

Are you using your daily dose of aliveness to do the same old thing?

Or are you shifting and growing and leaving behind what’s over.

Prayerfully ask yourself,

Is this really for my highest good?

Is this something I need to complete today?

Am I doing something that I really believe in?

Bless yourself with a pause that refreshes your life.

Taking personal control of how you are spending your time frees you from

the demands from others on the time of your life.

Blessing For The Day 12.31.18

As the year comes to a close and the next year is opening, we received the prayerful guidance to create a blessing every day for the month of January. We look forward to sharing these daily blessing with you.

Blessing

If you allow, this day will deliver magic. There are surprises waiting to be presenced.

What is required is that you allow the presence of mystery to be part of how you live yourself this day.

It means allowing the unpredictable, the sparkle of beauty, the fragrance of joy to arrive in you. It is a simple yet profound change in how you run yourself.

Mystery is everywhere as life exceeds, by its nature, the confines of the mind. Allowing mystery is the gateway that increases the flow of wonder, joy and the gift of life itself.

Allow yourselves to be surprised and you will be.
