Breaking Open

Breaking Open

Breaking Open

Not long after our return from our Soul Food Journey to the UK, I had what I’m calling a breaking open.

A parking cop was in the process of giving us a ticket for the scooter and I managed to talk her out of it. No small feat in San Miguel 😁. I then proceeded to hurry to leave the parking spot. Turning to exit on the three wheeled scooter, I caught a big yellow metal road divider with my front left wheel and went down breaking my collarbone.

And boy, did grace show up.

I jumped to my feet.  Right away, a man ran out and picked up the bike for me. David came out immediately. A good friend who is also a physician had been sitting with us, checked me out and he and his wife drove me to the local hospital for an x-ray, while David road the scooter home and picked up our car. Another doctor friend called one of the best orthopedic surgeons anywhere, and he met me within 10 minutes of arrival in his clinic 45 minutes away.

So only five hours after the accident, I was in surgery. A titanium plate was installed, and I awoke from surgery as if I had been in a lovely sleep.

What is the breaking open you might ask? (other than my collarbone 😁)

  1. A Greater Connection to the Divine

Three weeks into what will be a several month healing process I’ve necessarily given myself time to rest. In that state of openness, I feel a greater connection to the divine source that is always with me.

2. Receiving More

And I’ve had to open up my ability to receive even more. David has lovingly assisted helping me get dressed, wash my hair and of course prepare fantastic food. And dear friends and neighbors have brought food, flowers and sent lovely notes.

3. Loving Stillness Everyday

At the moment,  I cannot physically do things I might otherwise be doing. And I need rest to assist the healing. There is a stillness in that rest, in just being, that is some of the soul food I need.

4. Allowing the Divine to Lead

I’ve been really focused on getting myself out of the way to allow spirit/the divine/source to lead. I couldn’t have used my will to make what happen run as smoothly and easily as it did. The shock I experienced necessitated that something other than my will prevail.  Grace is relentless and always available no matter what the circumstances.

5. A Greater Feeling of Gratitude

In the deepening of gratitude for all the love from friends and the Divine, my soul has been deeply fed. What a terrific blessing a broken collarbone can be, don’t you think?

In love and gratitude,

Susan

SOUL FOOD PILGRIMAGE

We’re back from our soul nourishing pilgrimage to England and Scotland! The trip was a profound evolution for us.

We now understand that everyone’s life is a pilgrimage and we each need soulful nourishment — Soul food —  to thrive.

One aspect of Soul food comes from sacred places where people have been pilgrims for a long time. We traveled to places in England and Scotland where people have been pilgrims for thousands of years.

Poppies near Silbury Hill                            Everything was so alive! Poppies near West Kennet Long Barrow

Silbury Hill           Potent energy at Silbury Hill where the Michael and Mary Ley lines cross. Pilgrims have been coming to this hill built by humans over 4400 years ago.

Pilgrimage walk in EnglandWe walked miles and miles along pathways and ley lines receiving and infusion of life from the land. And even managed to drive a car on the left-hand side of the road.

Glastonbury Tor

We climbed sacred sites like Glastonbury Tor

Well of Eternal Life Iona

And drank from the Well of Eternal Life on Iona

We knew we were receiving sacred blessings that were beyond words.

Dartmoor friends

The trains carried us from London to Cornwall to Iona in the north. And friends old and new nourished our hearts.

We have all done amazing personal work to transform ourselves. And we knew that in ourselves and for those we work with that something was missing.

Have you noticed that no matter how much personal work you’ve done that there is an underlying hunger for something more?

Defining what our souls need to stay strong and well-nourished is what Wisdom Rx will be focusing on in the coming months. We each have a unique recipe for the soul food that will keep us truly connected to source, so that we don’t have to be starving in the journey of our lives.

Please share your thoughts with us below.

You Are Not a Formula

You are not a formula

You are Not a Formula

You, the life you are, cannot truly live inside the confines of a formula.

Formulas can help us understand why things are the way they are. A formula takes something and breaks it down into its component pieces, so that we can understand how a number of independent parts come together to create an outcome.

Yet, any formula that becomes a lifestyle will limit Life.

Life becomes formulaic not fluid.

It’s true, a recipe for bread is a formula but there are many variables that can affect a loaf. In making a loaf of bread, the oven, altitude, ingredients, human attention and more affect the outcome. In truth, no two loaves of bread are alike.

We searched Personal growth formulas on google and it spit out over two million references. That’s quite a few formulas to learn and grow by.

Formula’s like The Enneagram or Human Design  can have great value in terms of assisting someone’s personal growth. However, if one frames their perception of themselves or others exclusively, constantly through one of those lenses, they and everyone around them will become stuck inside a frame missing the wholeness of life.

It is critically important to know when to drop a formula and be present to what is. Sometimes applying a formula to a circumstance takes away from what is really going on. We can become blinded by formula and miss the powerful truth unfolding itself in front of us or within us.

We like to apply formulas to life and we think the formula is life. The formula is dead. It’s only meant as a tool for understanding, not to live by.

Formulas for personal growth were always designed as stepping stones to take us from one state of being toward another. If we keep living in the same formula of perception, we will create a repeat pattern of life resulting in frustration maintaining the presence of old wounds.

So, we invite you have some fun with these questions-

  • How many formulas are you living by?
  • Are they serving you?
  • Is it time to surrender your formulas and trust the un-formulaic miraculous within you to create your life.

We’d love to hear from you. Please share below.

The Heart and Mind of Pilgrimage

Heart and Mind of Pilfgrimage

The Heart and Mind of Pilgrimage

We are weeks away from physically starting our pilgrimage in England. However, the pilgrimage has begun.  We are already shedding some old ways of being because we have committed to step on those ancient trails.

Even though these old ways of thinking and acting have clearly exhausted their value, it’s surprising to notice our curious attachment to keeping them. On the other side of these attachments, fresh new life is emerging.

There are seeds of newness in all of us, just itching to bloom and grow themselves into the necessary aliveness we need to feel a sense of thriving. There is a great joy in thriving that’s very different from plain old fashioned good habits that can keep us locked into ways of being that cramp our lives.

All of us can commit to the heart and mind of pilgrimage in the midst of our everyday lives. It all depends on allowing the seeds of truth, of change, of greater knowing within us blooming and pushing away the embedded old habits our lives can become as they grow

What would it be like to go to the grocery store as a pilgrim?
— as one who is open to a journey where the sacred is revealed in surprising ways.

There is a longing deep within each of us that wants to walk away from what shrinks us into the sacred air of what grows us and gives us joy.

We are discovering that the commitment to a pilgrimage is what initiates surprising sweet revelations and allows for the casting away of the old comforts that insulate us from the rich Life we really are.

What part of your life today might you approach as a pilgrim?

We’d love hear your answer.  Please share your response below.

Our Pilgrimage Has Already Begun

Our Pilgrimage Has Already Begun

Some would say heading off on a pilgrimage and shutting down for a period of time is a little bit crazy. However, we’ll be doing just that. We are leaving behind our connection to clients, home, all the momentum and trappings of our lives in order to stay honest to the soulful truth that we each are.

The bells of San Miguel are joyously clanging in the background filling the air with their reminder of the comfort and beauty of where we live. And yet, their bell song reminds us to stop, drop and pray so that a greater presence of love and grace can prevail in each of our lives.

Our pilgrimage has already begun.

We and our dear friend Dwight Konrad who will be journeying with us, are each stepping toward the rich pathway of what’s next in each of our lives.

The perfect truth is, we do not know who we will be, or what will follow after having walked the sacred pathways of England and Scotland. All we know is that it’s time to cast away the old molds, no matter how beautifully created, that hold us in ancient limitation.

Each of you, and happily most of you, are aware that every one of us is on a pilgrimage of our own creation. So, perhaps you’ll dance with us in these rich questions.

No matter how beautiful, no matter how comfortable, no matter how much investment, is the creation of my life truly serving the song of my heart?

Or as we heard someone say recently, “If I really followed my heart then my life would change, so would my family, my marriage, maybe even my career.  I’m too scared to change even though I really want to, so I’ll just stay the same.”

If the song in your heart is on loud and the comfort you’ve felt is no longer satisfying, what might you lay down so that you can step into the calling of your life?

To be continued…..

Love, David, Susan and Dwight

Healing My Inner Jackal

Healing My Inner Jackal

I’ve always had a passion for children’s literature that told about faraway places and magical worlds. These treasures were my lifeboat when I was young. Immersed in a book, I felt I was soaring through lands where anything was possible.  So, I decided to write my own.

And my inner jackal began nipping at my heels.  Saying, “you’ve never written a children’s book before, what makes you think you can?” Or the one that remembers all the times a teacher returned my assignments with what was “wrong” without encouragement.

Do you know what it’s like to hear the jackal inside you?  The one’s who says you’re not good enough, don’t know enough, aren’t capable?

We each have an inner jackal nipping at our heels trying to keep us from evolving into the amazing beings we truly are.

Whenever my jackal arose, I looked it in the eye and said, “it’s okay, I love this story more than I fear your judgment beloved jackal.”  So, I wrote and wrote and asked for feedback and wrote some more.  Through love and action, I’m healing my inner jackal.

My book, Not So Little Cora is now in the hands of a superb writer, editor and dear friend Will Wilkinson, who is lovingly honing my story to make it sing.

Will has a new book called, Now or Never: A Time Traveler’s Guide to Personal and Global Transformation. I hope you’ll read it, for we share the same intention- to help create a thriving future for our children.
I’ve spent my lifetime preparing for now.  Each of us has.  We are all at a precipice where we can either rest in the status quo of our lives or courageously risk living our true heart’s desire.
As a dear friend of David’s said to him, “what have you got to lose?”

He answered, “nothing.” And the actions he took completely changed his life.

I’ll let you know when Not So Little Cora is available. She’s a wise little being who loves life and hasn’t lost connection with her inborn spirit.

We’d love to hear your response.
