What Kind of Story are You Running?

When I, Susan, was in 7th grade, I was sitting in social studies class not really paying attention when a thought went through me like a lightning bolt. Suddenly, I realized that not everyone thought like I did. This may seem obvious to many but at that moment I was really glad I was sitting down for my world seemed quite different.

Flash forward to two weeks ago and almost half a century later. I was walking with our construction manager Manny between our house and another he was now working on in the neighborhood. Manny was fixing a leak in our fountain and on his way back to building walls at the other.

I asked him if he enjoyed having a break from the labor-intensive work at our neighbor’s while working on our fountain.

He looked at me blankly as if I was speaking a foreign language. (Actually, I was speaking Spanish at the time). He said, “Work is work.” I realized then and there that I was running a story based on my perspective that labor requiring greater physical exertion was harder for me and that it must be for him too.

Stories are movies we run in our minds that can wake us up or keep us asleep.

I’m still learning to notice when I make assumptions or judgments because of the story I’m running that keeps me asleep. It may be a lifelong series of lessons.  And Manny in his wisdom gave me the opportunity to notice the story I was running.

Have you recognized a story you were running lately?

We’d love to hear from you. Please share your thoughts or stories below.

Stop Seeing Yourself Through The Past

Questions that won't go away

Stop Seeing Yourself Through The Past

We’ve been inspired and supported lately by Paul Selig’s book “The Book of Mastery.” We’ve published years of blogs pointing out all the ways we have been taught to think and believe and we’ve offered many ways to learn to perceive anew and how to turn that perception into a new way of being.

There is a call to action that is happening throughout the world to break through our old ways of being and allow the truth of who we are to come to the forefront.

In just a few words, Paul and the Guides bring into focus and create an invitation to cast off the old dead past.

“So many of you get stuck, you see, when you cause yourself fear, when you demand to know yourselves through what you have been. What you have been means so little in the face of who you are. What you have known yourself as has gotten you here perhaps, but like yesterday’s dress that no longer fits very well, to try to perceive the self through one’s old self keeps you in an old way that has no real bearing on who and what you are.” Paul Selig The Book of Mastery A Channeled Text p. 302

We’d love to hear from you:

  • How do you perceive yourself through filters of the past?
  • Who are you really?
  • Isn’t it time to let that part out?

The Party Where the Soul Birds Came – Intuitive Story

The Party Where the Soul Birds Came

Stories seep into us and help us open to our intuitive knowing and a sense of possibility. They rekindle a sense of the sacred and remind us to be open to the greater wisdom, beauty and passion that is our birthright.

During our retreat this year and subsequently in group sessions with clients, David has been telling intuitive stories. We thought we’d share one with you.

The Party Where the Soul Birds Came

Have you ever found yourself invited to a party where you didn’t know what was going to happen?

Not that we know what is going to happen very often, but when invited to a party we sort of think we know what to expect. Todd and Jane were invited to a party and nothing they expected happened.

It was a random invitation someone they knew said “Hey, I’m going to something tonight that you should come too!”.

Todd and Jane were shy people, not especially social so they were happy to be invited.  They got the address and the time it was starting but that’s all.  They weren’t really sure where the house was, they’d never even been to that neighborhood before.

They felt a curious tingle of excitement. It was different than just going to someplace new or the uncertainty of meeting people they didn’t know.  After all they had an invitation.

The time came for them to leave their home and drive to the party location. It took a while to find the house.  It was on a bit of a hill surrounded by wide open space with a curious collection of trees, not too big, and cactus reaching up into the night sky, and the strangest collection of wild flowers open at night that they had ever seen.

It was a beautiful home of considerable size. The door was wide open.  They could hear the sound of laughter inside.  That sound brought them to a complete stop. It was the sound of crackling happiness. There was a sweet kindness in the chatter and laughter.

There was thread of music mixed with that sound that felt welcoming. They each broke into a smile that spread through their whole bodies. They crossed the threshold and stepped into an atmosphere filled with happy people joyful to be together.

They were warmly greeted.  A delicious beverage was put into each of their hands. The fragrances and light were beautiful. There was the unmistakable air of anticipation oddly mixed with an ease or contentment.

They were curious, “How could this be?” They never felt anything like this before.

Their friend and the host and hostess found them. And they felt welcomed. Touched by a frequency of something they couldn’t quite identify, but it was there none the less powerful and present.

For two shy people, they were at ease and a smile spread across their whole body. They engaged in conversation, it was real, it was of the heart.

It was the kind of conversation they loved.

The evening advanced and prompted by an unspoken cue the crowd of people stepped through the open doors of the living room onto a patio, quite large. The night sky above seemed to twinkle with a sonic clarity they’d never experienced before.

Conversations continued and then a quietness filled the group. Over to the right of the patio they suddenly noticed a giant tree now luminous.  On every branch of this tree there were birds of color, large, small. There were raptors with giant talons.

You could imagine the group looking at this tree looking at a vast collection of birds.  There was awe and stillness.

The hosts in the center of the group said, “Welcome Beloveds” we have a gift for you.  These are not just birds as you know them.  These are your soaring spirit allies.  They told us to bring each of you here, because they want to come home to you.

The hosts raised their right arms and two beautiful strong birds lifted off the tree and came to their wrists, landed and rested there.

Then each person raised their right arm and a bird took off, came to them and landed. Todd and Jane couldn’t help themselves.  They were amazed. They raised their arms.  They saw to birds take off.  They couldn’t quite see them but the took ff.  They held their arms up and a great raptor swooshed and landed on each of their wrists.

There was no weight but there was clearly the warmth of life touching their wrists.  When they saw the talons of these great birds extended to land on their wrists a flash of terror went through them.

The terror dissolved in a twinkling when the talons fit perfectly around each of their wrists. And there was a rush of joy, of beauty of majesty that arose within them.  And they knew they had been found by something they had longed for.

There was stillness that came upon the group as each person’s spirit bird landed.

Then as if answering a silent command, everyone lay down on the ground. They looked up into the night sky.  Each person holding their spirit bird in this prone position looked up and every bird gave a cry that was sweet, sharp, powerful.

And the sky opened.  The night sky became alive with a dance of light. There appeared before each person a face of love.  It was the only way to describe what was there- A face of love.

And into each person came an onrush of impassioned hope, of unmistakable love and a vision of how to go forth in the world as a song of spirit, a creator of joy, a healer of wounds.

Some time passed and then everyone rose. Each person and their spirit bird bowed to one another. And everyone knew it was time to reenter the world to allow the majesty to unfold.

Breaking the Cycle of Disappointment

Disappointment was the tool my parents used to keep me towing the line to the norms that were important to them. it felt like a stab in the heart when I was young when they were disappointed with me. And I still bristle at times at the use of that word.

So, David and I have been cleaning up our own cycles of disappointment lately. One thing that has really helped us is knowing the actual root of the word.

In the Online Etymological Dictionary ‘to disappoint’ has two roots- from the early 15th century “to undo an appointment or remove from office.” And later that century the modern sense “to frustrate expectations.”

Not taking someone else’s disappointment personally is made a bit easier when I look at it in terms of being ‘removed from office’. Some of the norms my parents believed in didn’t match my natural expression. So I “undid” the appointments that I didn’t agree to by being me not being what they thought I should be.

The energy that goes with disappointment is a contorted expression of love. I was confused by my parents who really did love me and yet were disappointed when I was not following the rules they set forth.

But really, disappointment results when our own will gets in the way of Divine Will- or when we try to impose our personalized will on others. The driver of our will is “You got to do it my way or the way I think it should be.”

Breaking the cycle of disappointment requires a clear loving heart. In love, we can have acceptance for ourselves and others. If my parents or I had known better we would have done differently. My parents did their best as did I.

And most of all when we act from being informed by Divine Will first, we don’t disappoint ourselves or run that energy toward another. We are acting in love and no mismatch occurs. I am no longer out of ‘appointment’ with the Divine.

If we prayerfully hold the question “What is the way right now?” and allow the answer to come, then love or Divine Will will be what shapes our actions.

We want to live in a world where dis-appointment from the Divine is healed. Where our trained habits and conditions of separation are no longer running us.

In truth, our hearts ache because of separation from love. And if God, the Divine, Source is love then when we are in alignment there is no way to be disappointed. The cycle is broken because we have closed the gap.

We welcome your comments below and look forward to hearing from you.

You Are Not a Slave

Over Giver’s Anonymous

Not long ago, we formed a group called Over-Giver’s Anonymous with some of our clients. Anyone else relate?

We’ve been learning to give from our overflow not our core battery of life. This hasn’t always been easy for two fundamental caregivers. The following blog came with the help of our allies.

You are Not a Slave

Have you noticed lately that there seem to be a lot of demands for your attention? Not just the normal needs that can seem like a demand from our beloveds, but in other areas of your life as well.

Learning to notice and analyze the nature of a demand for our attention is how you stay free and in charge of how you spend your life force. This requires that you put your automatic behavior in slow motion mode. It is how you can stop over-giving.

The overuse of your kindness circuit that can get addicted to over-giving can sometimes lead to a loss of freedom and the feeling that you are “enslaved” to a job, a person, or a place.

Learning to feel and exercise freedom at this time in the world is the primary ingredient to being a contributor of love, possibility and healing for the planet.

The following is an invocation or prayer to help you claim in ever-greater ways your birthright as a free ultimately creative living being.

Oh Beloveds of Life,

Be reminded you were created in a spark of life that is boundless.
Be reminded that you are of life itself.
Be reminded your nature is freedom.

We hold you close and breathe into you a fresh breath of freedom
so that you may each step forth in freedom and empowerment
no matter where you are or what you are doing.

Sometimes a kindly act from you can produce a weakness in those you love.
Reminding someone that they have freedom and strength within them
and that they can stand up empowered
is more important than fixing the problem they have created.

We each must learn how to be in constructive community together helping each other to arise in strength combined with loving action to end the legacy of slavery.

If you are depleted and continue to give to those you love, your body will suffer.
Learning to not over-give is the foundation of a sustainable life.

Consider this, are you supporting a weakness
or calling up the strength, integrity and independence in another?

When we all arise in the vast love and freedom of our hearts
there is an unmistakable joy that fills the air because we are living out of our birthright
as sons and daughters of life itself.

There is a broadcast coming to you from the very heart of life
that is designed to produce a remembrance within you
that you are a free being and can act from that freedom at all times.

The tiniest gesture of an act from liberated freedom
can produce a cascade of joyful action and noticeable love.

Let us know if you want to join our group Over-Giver’s Anonymous. It’s a commitment to growing the skills to give from our abundance not from when we are depleted. We’re even forming a special online coaching group. If you are interested Click Here.

And if you’d like to comment we’d love to hear from you below.

Thanks for journeying with us.

One of the songs that plays in the gym is Pharrell Williams song Happy.

Pharrell Williams – Happy (Official Music Video) – YouTube

Every time we hear this song it makes us smile, even as we are doing the last series of crunches that we didn’t know we could do but Ramiro knew. 🙂

Choosing happiness even in the midst of day to today challenges is a reflex muscle we can all learn to strengthen just like we do our physical bodies.

So Choose something that makes you feel happy. Like listening to Pharrell Williams song Happy or taking a break and soaking up sunshine

Sharing with one another will help us grow our own happiness quotient! We’d love to hear about how you’re exercising your happiness muscle.
